Call for Neuroscience and Sensory Researchers: Academic Collaboration Opportunity

The International Misophonia Foundation (IMF) is seeking researchers to collaborate on reviewing the results of a machine-learning study, as well as contributing to additional projects focused on misophonia and sensory research.

Details of the Collaboration

  • Authorship: Contributors will be credited on all related publications (typically between the 3rd and 6th author positions).
  • Eligibility:
    • PhD, PsyD, or PhD Candidates (PhDCan) are preferred.
    • Graduated MA/MSc researchers in relevant fields will also be considered.
  • Research Backgrounds of Interest:
We welcome researchers with expertise in neuroscience, kinesiology, audiology, sensory integration, vestibular disorders, autism, ADHD, epilepsy, misophonia, misokinesia, neurological disorders, physical medicine, and other fields related to the brain, body, and senses.
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 10–20 hours per month, depending on the complexity of feedback required.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Providing academic insights and commentary.
    • Reviewing peer-reviewed literature and integrating it into your perspective.
    • Evaluating and reviewing co-authors’ work for accuracy and providing constructive feedback.
    • Offering general academic contributions to studies and publications.

Benefits

  • Tax-Deductible Contributions: If you are based in the USA, we can provide a tax receipt for the hours donated.
  • Recognition:
    • Contributors will be listed as “IMF Researchers” and promoted on our websites.
    • References will be provided upon request for labs, academic programs, scholarships, and more.
  • Please note: This is not a paid position. The IMF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Missouri, USA, and all misophonia research is funded by our community and donors. Even our principal researcher is currently unpaid.

IMF Research Initiatives

The IMF is dedicated to advancing the understanding of misophonia and related conditions through research and education. Current and planned initiatives include:

  • Research Studies:
    • Misophonia Perceptions Study: Exploring how misophonia is understood by those experiencing it.
    • Treatment Perceptions/Sensory History Study: Evaluating treatment outcomes and correlations between DMQ and ASH scores.
    • Sound Acoustic Properties Study: Using machine learning to analyze the acoustic features of common misophonia triggers.
    • Misophonia Trigger Study: Surveying triggers associated with the fight-flight-freeze response in misophonia.
  • Journal and Review Board:
    • Launching an open-source, peer-reviewed research journal dedicated to misophonia and related fields.
    • Establishing an Institutional Review Board (IRB) for research oversight.
  • Grant Funding: Future plans include providing grants to researchers as funding expands.

How to Get Involved

We would love to have you on our team. If interested, please send your CV and contact information to the International Misophonia Foundation.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research while collaborating with a passionate community. Let’s work together to advance the understanding of misophonia and sensory diversity.

Sincerely,
Shaylynn Hayes-Raymond
