Where Donations Go
Donations to the International Misophonia Foundation (IMF) support research, accessibility, education, and practical assistance for people affected by misophonia. IMF is a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in Missouri. We have operated with a small budget and substantial volunteer contributions, and additional funding would help sustain and expand projects that are already underway.
Interested in making a significant gift or sponsoring a specific project? We welcome conversations with individual donors, family foundations, charitable funds, and organizations interested in a defined research, education, or accessibility initiative. We can discuss project scope, proposed expenses, deliverables, and reporting before a restricted gift is agreed.
Our Funding Priorities
1. Misophonia Research and Publication
Donations can help support research administration, participant recruitment, data analysis, research assistance, dissemination and publication-related expenses. IMF has undertaken studies concerning treatment perceptions, sensory history, and a free 10-week educational program. Funding can help bring existing work through analysis and public reporting rather than treating data collection as the end of a project.
2. Misophonia Accessibility Guide
Through the Accessibility Guide project, IMF is collecting perspectives from people with misophonia, parents and caregivers, and professionals on accommodations in homes, schools, workplaces, healthcare and other environments. Donor support can cover survey analysis, accessible graphic design, web development, publication, and outreach so that the resulting guide reaches people who can use it.
3. MisophoniaResearch.com
MisophoniaResearch.com is being developed as a central location for research references, researcher and organization listings, and collaboration resources. Funding can support database development, content verification, accessibility, maintenance, and the work needed to keep scientific information current. The project is open to contributors across institutions and perspectives.
4. Free Education and Professional Resources
Contributions help IMF develop and maintain free videos, conference recordings, educational guides, coping resources, and programs for families, individuals, educators and clinicians. Funding needs may include captions, accessible formats, editing, production, hosting, and distribution.
5. Direct Assistance
IMF has historically provided headphones, earplugs, sensory equipment, educational access, and pro-bono services. Donations can help make future assistance possible, subject to available funding and program eligibility. Review historical assistance records.
6. Essential Operating Infrastructure
Research and public programs depend on less visible costs, including website hosting, security, digital tools, administrative services, compliance, and communications. Donations may be used for these necessary expenses as well as program delivery. Allocation and expenditure decisions are subject to IMF’s governance and applicable donor restrictions.
For Major Donors and Project Sponsors
IMF welcomes project-specific support as well as unrestricted gifts. A prospective donor can request a written project outline identifying:
- The work to be completed and why it is needed
- A proposed budget and eligible expenses
- Deliverables and anticipated milestones
- How progress and outcomes will be reported
- Whether the gift is restricted to a specific project
Proposed funding amounts are developed for the individual project. IMF does not represent proposed goals or preliminary budgets as funds already raised or outcomes already achieved. Projects involving research remain subject to appropriate ethical oversight.
Accountability and Transparency
IMF’s public reports distinguish completed work from active projects and future plans. We report cash expenses separately from the estimated value of donated professional services. Donors are encouraged to review our programs, historical assistance records, and year-specific financial filings.
