Our Impact

Our Impact

Since 2023 the International Misophonia Foundation (IMF) has conducted research, delivered free education, provided direct assistance, and advocated for sensory accessibility. This page separates completed activities from projects still in development.

Impact at a glance

  • Three studies: IMF reported data collection completed for three studies during its initial years; completing data collection is not the same as publishing findings.
  • Approximately 200 pro-bono counselling hours: historical assistance records report about 100 hours in 2023 and 100 in 2024.
  • Approximately $30,000 in nominal service value: calculated from 200 reported hours at $150/hour; not cash spending or audited valuation.
  • Five CCPA continuing education hours: approved for An Introduction to Misophonia for Clinicians.
  • Less than $10,000 annually: IMF has operated with annual expenses below this amount in its reported recent activities; exact figures are available through financial filings.

Original research and ethical oversight

IMF has developed studies and procedures for participant recruitment, informed consent, and research review. Projects include treatment perceptions and sensory history, as well as an ongoing evaluation of a free 10-week educational program. Study results should be distinguished from data collection milestones. IMF is also preparing a scientific DSM proposal and has contributed to public discussions of diagnostic recognition; the proposal has not been approved.

Accessibility advocacy and software changes

IMF has corresponded with Microsoft, Google, Apple, Blizzard and other developers concerning sensory accessibility, particularly blinking text cursors and repetitive visual stimuli. IMF’s historical project record reports Microsoft communications and changes affecting caret behaviour in Office applications and other products. The organization continues to seek more flexible sensory settings. The record should not be interpreted as independent proof that every product change was caused by IMF.

Research collaboration infrastructure

In 2026 IMF acquired MisophoniaResearch.com, intended to house a searchable research collection, researcher and organization directory, and collaboration opportunities. The resource is in development; use, participation and collaboration outcomes are not yet established.

Community-informed accommodation guidance

IMF is gathering the perspectives of people with misophonia, caregivers and professionals through the Accessibility Guide project. The final guide is pending survey collection and evaluation.

Financial stewardship

IMF operates on a small budget, relying on donated time and professional expertise alongside cash contributions. Volunteer services are not the same as cash expenditure. Donations support research, educational production, website infrastructure, outreach and assistance. The foundation’s financial filings should be used for year-specific revenue and expense totals.

What remains to be completed

  • Publication of research findings and completion of the DSM proposal
  • Expansion of research records and directory participation
  • Publication of the Accessibility Guide
  • Verification and publication of further accessibility advocacy outcomes
  • More systematic measurement of resource use and recipient outcomes
