I am a qualified counsellor based in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, UK, offering face-to-face and UK wide online counselling for adults.
I have a particular interest in misophonia and the wider emotional and psychological impact it can have on someone’s life. While misophonia is often understood in terms of reactions to particular sounds, I am particularly interested in how these experiences can affect relationships with others and, perhaps more importantly, the relationship someone has with themselves.
Living with misophonia can bring considerable confusion and emotional turmoil. Intense reactions to everyday sounds can lead to feelings of frustration, guilt, shame and anxiety. Over time, this can affect self-esteem, influence relationships and leave people questioning themselves and their responses.
My approach is warm, compassionate and trauma-informed. I work integratively, drawing on Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches.
I have also completed EMDR training and am interested in its potential application when working with misophonia. Emerging research suggests that EMDR may be helpful in reducing misophonia-related distress, particularly where emotionally disturbing memories or experiences can be identified. I am interested in how this approach, alongside relational therapeutic work, may help people make sense of their experiences and develop a different relationship with themselves.
I also have a particular interest in neurodivergence and have undertaken autism-informed counselling training.
My aim is to offer a supportive therapeutic relationship where people feel understood, can explore their experiences without judgement, and begin to find ways of navigating life that feel more manageable.
